Mission experience part 1: MY EXPERIENCE RECEIVING MY MISSION CALL

In 2019 I made the decision to serve a full time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. I really do not know how I came upon this decision; but after my BYU experience I felt it was the right thing to do. So on a Sunday morning I walked up to my Bishop in my single adults ward and I told him. Soon after we quickly started to work on my papers. I went through interviews, medical reviews and was deemed eligible to submit my papers. After the submission two weeks later I received what we say my "call"

After receiving my call I immediately gathered my friends and face-timed my family because I was in college. We had a big reveal and I had the privilege of opening my call in front of my loved ones. It was a moment I will never forget actually. I was met with hugs and a lot of support!. I had everyone telling me how proud of me they were. And how I will never regret going on a mission. It felt as if this was the best decision in my 19 years of life i had made. In reality after a sucky year at BYU I really felt as though I had made the right decision.
I did not know much about missionary work, but I just knew that it was the next step I wanted to take in my life. The emotions in the video were very real and genuine. I was very much excited to serve the people of the DR!
After school I went home and was met with the same actions from my family. They were all so proud of me of the decision I had made. I was set to leave in July 31st to the Missionary training center for 6 weeks and afterwards to the Dominican Republic. Something that is very common also in the culture of the church is for the missionary to give farewell talks! As someone who is not too good I nervously accepted. The farewell talk goes with what we call a potluck. As an African you know we had to throw it down. We had the Jollof, the waakye, the fried fish and more! To end the day we had took pictures and a few days later I was off!
Though I was so happy to leave for the mission I was not prepared as to what was going to slap me in the face! When I say reality hit it hit!
